What We Did

The John Conyers III identity from his first run, the wordmark, the III mark and the red and blue palette, then every graphic the State Senate campaign needed: launch flyers, posters, lawn signs, stickers, messaging, endorsement and canvassing templates, and the lit card.

The Outcome

On August 4th, 2026, he won the 11-candidate Democratic primary for the 3rd State Senate District in Michigan, as The Detroit News reported.

01. The Ask

Give a first-time candidate an identity of his own, then carry it through a State Senate race.

The first lockupThe State Senate lockup

We first worked with John Conyers III when he started out in his political career, on the brand identity for his campaign. In 2026 he ran for the 3rd State Senate District in Michigan.

The ask was an identity for a candidate starting out, then every piece of graphic work the State Senate campaign needed, from the campaign office launch to the lawn signs and the lit card that went door to door. We did both.

A wordmark, a III mark drawn as bars and a palette of blue #3555a5 and red #ed1c24, locked up for his first run and then for State Senate.

02. Our Role

Therum is the campaign’s design studio, across both runs

Wordmark explorations: Conyers for Congress set in twelve typefaces on blues from navy to pale sky
C monogram explorations, twelve versions on blue
Palette explorations, twelve blues with their hex codes
The C mark in four blue squares over red bars

We drew the identity when he first started out in politics, then produced every piece of graphic work the 2026 State Senate campaign needed, from the office launch through to the card that went door to door.

Build templates the campaign can run without us

The endorsement graphic takes a new name and photo each time it is used. The canvass call leaves the date, time and place open for the team to fill in. The pieces that repeat were drawn to be refilled, not redesigned.

This is the board the look of the 2026 State Senate campaign was built from.

Campaign lit

Taken through several rounds to a final front and back. The front tells his story in his own words: Michigan is full of people doing everything they can and still falling behind, and he is running to change that with steady leadership and results people can actually feel. The back lists the areas he runs on, affordability, jobs, education, family leave, accountable government and public safety, and closes on the date and the site: vote Conyers on August 4th, voteconyers.com.

06. Philosophy

Inspired by Mamdani, organic to John

Our voice, blueOur voice, red

We were very inspired. John wanted most of the work to be inspired by Zohran Mamdani, so we did our best to capture that while staying organic to him and the legacy he carries.

Quote graphics carrying the campaign line, in blue and in red.
